EMDR Therapy in California
Online Trauma Therapy
Are you feeling Anxious? Depressed? Fearful?
Maybe a recent event has triggered an older memory, or perhaps you’re avoiding certain places, situations or thoughts. You may be engaging in compulsive behaviors to numb your feelings, having frequent nightmares or intrusive memories. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck..
Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of this in every facet of your life:
- Struggling to stay focused and productive at work
- Numbing your feelings with compulsive behaviors
- Having flashbacks, nightmares or being hyper-aware of your surroundings.
EMDR can help.
It may feel impossible now, but you can change. You can grow. You can heal. And I can help you get there.
EMDR helps you do 4 things:
- Identify the root of the problems you’re experiencing.
- Gain insight about past experiences.
- Transform limiting beliefs.
- Find relief, so you can move forward.
I’ll guide you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to EMDR comes from a place of hope : that you are not the “problem,” but that it’s simply the way your brain has stored memories that needs fixing.
Anxiety, Depression and Compulsive Behaviors don’t have to be your story.
I can help you get there.
EMDR Therapy FAQ
Q: What are EMDR sessions like?
A: In our first couple sessions we will discuss your experiences in order to identify any limiting beliefs you may hold about yourself — for instance: I’m not good enough, I am shameful, or I’m not safe. Then we will choose a negative belief to address, bringing up a memory, emotion and identifying any body sensations. From there, we will begin reprocessing using either eye movements or tapping to activate both sides of the brain and soothe the limbic system.
Between sets of reprocessing, I’ll ask you to take a breath and identify what you notice. You are welcome to share what you notice if you feel comfortable, but it is not necessary. The beauty of EMDR Therapy is that reprocessing works whether or not you choose to share what you are noticing.
Q: How long do I need to be in therapy?
A: I meet with clients on a weekly basis for EMDR Therapy in order to achieve the maximum benefit. The length of time you spend in therapy depends upon what your needs are, but due to the nature and depth of the work we do, it is likely that we will work together for 6 months to a year. Ultimately, the the amount of time that you would like for us to work together is up to you.
Q: What if I am already working with another therapist?
Unlike other forms of therapy, you can work with an EMDR therapist while seeing your traditional therapist. EMDR therapy is a powerful tool which can assist you in reprocessing blocks that may be standing in the way of your progress with your current therapist. If you would like to see me for EMDR while you are seeing your therapist, we will likely work together for 1-15 sessions.
Q: How do we get started?
A: Call me for a free 15-minute phone consultation. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about EMDR therapy and let you know what you can expect. If we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule an appointment and begin your healing journey. I can’t wait to connect with you!
